Have you ever thought about spiritual things? How did I get here? Why am I here? Where am I going? What is the purpose for my life? Have you ever heard the phrase "born again", "saved", or "salvation" and knew it had something to do with Jesus Christ but wanted to know more about Him? Who is Jesus to you? If you were to die today, do you have the assurance and confidence that you would go to heaven? How does a person get to heaven? Before you stand before God, as we all will someday, would you like to know what God says about eternal life?
Salvation Scriptures God has written in His Word the entire story of sin and salvation. You can read it for yourself. The following verses are only a brief look at the miraculous salvation your heavenly Father has for you. Every word of Scripture was written for you and for me personally, for edification, and instruction.
Many people believe that if they do good works they will attain heaven. What does the bible have to say about that? Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" A person's good works are not enough to deliver from sin. It is impossible to attain unto God or earn His favor.
Only those who trust in Jesus as their Savior shall receive eternal life. God has given us His word so that we may have confidence that Jesus has forgiven us of our sins and has given to us eternal life. 1 John 5:12-13 “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." John 20:31 "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."
No man can measure up to the righteous requirements of a just God. Because of our sin nature we are incapable of attaining righteousness on our own merits. We are all born sinners. We inherited our sin nature from Adam and Eve. Romans 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one;" Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
Jesus receives us the way we are. Even as a sinner, Jesus came and demonstrated his love for us by dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. We don’t have to clean up first; just come the way we are. Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
The consequences for our sin is not only physical death but also spiritual death. Jesus came and willingly took our punishment and judgment for us and now we can receive forgiveness for sin when we receive Jesus into our life by faith. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
The Way to Receive Jesus as Your Savior We must believe onto Jesus and confess our sins and ask Jesus to come into our heart and save us from our sins. Romans 10:9-10 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
We are promised that whosoever will come to Jesus and confess our sins shall be saved from our sins and receive eternal life. The Bible refers to two groups of whosoever. Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God loves you and me. Our sins have separated us from a relationship with God. Even so, God was not willing that any of us should die in our sins and remain separated for eternity from a righteous God. The other group of whosoevers are those who refuse to receive Jesus as their Savior and will not have their name written in the book of life and they will be cast into the lake of fire where they will spend eternity. Revelation 20:15 "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
If you would like to receive eternal life in heaven, your works can't save you. Being a good person can't save you. Taking Jesus as your Savior can save you. This act seems too simple for some. It is simple, yet it is the most powerful confession a person can make in their entire life. It requires a great humility and a childlike faith. Remember God is personal. He is a God of relationship. He simply desires us to come before Him and:
-
Admit we are a sinner and confess our sins. I John 1:9. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" Be willing to turn from our sins
-
Believe that the work of Jesus (death, burial, and resurrection) was total payment for our sins.
-
Accept Jesus into our life. When He comes in, He cleanses us of our sins and restores us to fellowship with God.
If you mean what you pray you can pray a sinners prayer similar to the prayer below and Jesus will forgive you of all your sins and come into your heart and save you just as the scriptures indicate.
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Je sus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9, that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved. I now confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, I am saved. Help me to remain faithful to You all the days of my life in order that I may receive a crown of righteousness and dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Thank you, Jesus! Amen.
If you have sincerely prayed a prayer such as the one above, you have been reborn into the family of God. You now have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His Spirit will always be with you, to lead, to guide, and to comfort. He will never abandon you. If you have prayed to receive Jesus Christ there are a few things we ask of you. First, find a Bible teaching church to attend on Sunday, pray to God and read the Bible daily to spiritually grow in your Christian faith. Tell a Christian friend or pastor that you have prayed to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior. They can help you get started in your new walk as a Christian. Please feel free to contact us and let us know specifically that you have just prayed to receive Christ. We want to be praying for you by name. We rejoice in your salvation and encourage you to walk with God daily! Share with others the Gospel of Jesus Christ so they too may know of God's love and gift of eternal life.
